How do you feel about December weddings?
I'm from Northern California (San Jose) and we obviously don't get snow. The majority of my family lives pretty close. My dream wedding would preferably take place the first weekend of December.
I'm not getting married anytime soon, but I have always dreamed about having a wedding in December because I love the Christmas season; everything about it is so magical to me, as cheesy as that may sound! I know that some people have qualms about weddings around this time because of the holidays and the traveling, but...
What are your guys' thoughts/feelings about December weddings?

Too much is going on! The last thing you want to think about it a wedding! Maybe you should plan your honey moon to be in December!
Winter Wonderland Theme!!!! kick ass party
personally i would hate to wear a jacket with my wedding dress i seen it happened b4 n it totally killed it but if you dont get that cold in dec than go for it!!
sometimes in tx it looks like we in summer on a christmas day n a couple of hrs later it may be snowing our weather is crazy like that so i wouldnt risk it…* particularly in houston
i love them. my brother and his wife got married on december 22nd. it was really pretty.
I think they are great, but you need to accept that a lot of people would not be able to attend. Getting time off in December is like getting a root canal. However, if your primary guests can drive to your location within a couple of hours, it should work just fine.
If it’s in California, why not.
I was going to say..snow would be way too much to deal with, along with the cold. It would be GORGEOUS with snow, but would add unnecessary pressure. Since you’re in Cali, I say go for it. Christmas time is amazing, so why not make it even more special!!
You might have to remember though: people are getting ready for Christmas – spending tons of money. If you need people to fly over to Cali, or even buy presents and what not, they might not be thrilled paying money at this time. And people are just finishing up with Thanksgiving, so it might be too crazy – filled with too many activities/events/family gatherings. So yah, those are some thoughts about what your guests would have to go through
too close to christmas.
Weddings are expensive for guests as well. They have to buy things to wear, a gift for you, travel expenses, etc. All of that going on during the Christmas season just might be too much for some peoples’ budgets. Many people are already traveling around that time as well, so they may be unable to attend. Airfare is also higher because of the holidays… Just things to think about.
(Your family might live close, but what about your future spouse’s?)
It’s your wedding! Earlier in December allows people to enjoy your wedding and still enjoy their holiday. There is no perfect time for everyone else. My cousin had a beautiful winter wedding with ornaments as table decorations. The place sparkled! Have fun, its your day!
I live in PA and I love the fall/winter seasons. I no my wife would never have agreed to a winter wedding but I would have loved it. If you do it, consider the first weekend and go with a red and white theme. My wedding was all red and white and all the colors and flowers looked awesome in the photos. I wouldn’t have a Christmas them necessarily but you could pull off having the seasonal colors without taking away from the wedding. One other really good point would be discounts on the hall and catering that time of year. You should get a really good break on the price since its not “in season”. That might be enough to sway your fiance.
im getting married in december screw what everyone says if you want to get married in december its your wedding not there’s get married when you want dont let anyone tell u different
Yup ! i also totally agree with Amber , marriage in december will be a awesome idea, and you also can celebrate your honeymoon on New Year..
I got married in Dec and see nothing wrong with it at all, family is usually around for the holidays so there’s no extra cost for them to travel just for a wedding. I had mine closer to x-mas just for that reason. Now everyone is here for our anniversary and x-mas. It’s just great.
I’m not thrilled when anyone plans things for that time of year. It is so hectic and costly and my budget is usually tight.
BUT it is your wedding and when you are getting married you are expecting it to happen that 1 time. So if a relative of mine planned their wedding in December, the timing could be better IMO, but if they love it and planned it then, I would do everything I could to be there.
You need to plan your wedding around YOU, not others or your guests — unless they are someone you wouldn’t want to miss your wedding.
If I was local (or not too far away) it would not bother me in the least to go to a December wedding. As a matter of fact, I have gone to two December weddings and loved both of them!
If this is what you want (when you do get engaged), then you should definitely go with it!
I don’t see them as any different from a wedding held any other month. Why would they be? If you want a Christmas theme then go for it. Make sure to send out save the dates 6 months in advance so folks can prepare. That said, all the weddings I have attended in December have huge turnouts and been gorgeous and a ton of fun. Don’t let anyone talk you out of it if that is what you and your fiance want.
